Last weekend saw Nairobi buzz up with a series of entertainment events, from Nyayo Stadium, Ngong racecourse to the most developed county in Kenya, Machakos.
Masaku 7s went down from Friday 8th to 10th of July, 2016.
Like expected, most of the crowd moved to Machakos early Saturday morning. Traffic started getting congested from 11 am, but it was nothing compared to the previous traffic jam of the 2015 Masaku 7s.
The stadium was scarce amidst the chilly cloudy weather with only a few spectators and many players when Varcity team got to the venue, Machakos stadium. The players however, went on with the business of the day.
Later on, when we interviewed one of the players, Mike from Homeboyz rugby team, he said they were too tired and didn’t think they make it for the after-party.
Well, they should have, because the after-party is when all hell broke loose!
Kenyans streamed in from all corners immediately the music started playing at the rear side of the satadium. DJs Kaytrixx lit up the stadium to dancehall tunes, much to the cheer and amusement of party-lovers while DJ Nickdee and DJ Shekhy scratched the decks at Gelian Hotel just outside the stadium.
Driks from outside were not allowed, but its pretty impressive how EABL’s Tusker managed to provide beer at an affordable price of Kshs. 200 a can. Lots of food and other beverages were served within the park, enough to serve most of the population of the stadium.
Sunday echoed in a new array of events, including a motor parade that consisted of more than 10 parade of sports bikes doing drifts around the pitch. It was quite a spectacular show!
Homeboys Rugby team carried the Division Two main Cup trophy and are were crowned the official 2016 Masaku7s Champions.
The results were as followers;
Thika 5-19 Makueni
Stomers 0-28 festival (Main Cup semis)
