The African Union Commission and the jury of the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA (not to be confused with AFRIMMA – African Music Magazine Awards) consisting of thirteen members from various countries in every corner of the continent have unveiled the Nominees List for the 2017 edition of AFRIMA.  It is the continent’s largest music awards awarding musicians in various categories from all across the continent.

This is the fourth installment of the annually held awards. In partnership with the African Union, AFRIMA is centered on the promotion and marketing of African music and is by far the largest gathering of such magnitude of stakeholders in music in Africa.

The Best Female Artistes and Best Male Artistes of the five regions (Northern, Western, Southern, Central & Eastern) have been released while the nominees in the continental categories will be announced on Friday, August 11, 2017.

Several Kenyan artists have been nominated including Octopizzo and Victoria Kimani. Lesser known acts like Chess and Nigeria-based Qritiqal have also made it to the nominees’ list this year for Best Female East Africa and Best Male East Africa respectively.

Tanzanian stars Ali Kiba, Vanessa Mdee & Diamond Platnumz also unsurprisingly made it onto the nominees list creating a lot of competition. Shockingly, no Ugandan act (not even one-hit wonder Eddy Kenzo or legendary Jose Chameleone) made it onto this list of Best Male East African Artist nominees.

Public voting for the nominees in the different categories of the awards will open on August 21, 2017 on their official website HERE.

Stay tuned to the site for more news and the rest of the categories and their nominees.
