Thirteen students from Moi University main campus in Eldoret went missing two years ago and their whereabouts are still unknown. It is suspected that the 13 have joined terrorist group Al-Shabaab.
Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen, more commonly known as Al-Shabaab, is a jihadist terrorist group based in East Africa. They have caused various terror attacks in the country like the Westgate attack and are said to brainwash their followers.
According to eDaily, the Uasin Gishu County Commissioner (CC) Abdi Hassan has confirmed on the disappearance of the 13, saying the police will continue searching for the missing students.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago has said he is working closely with Moi university’s administration to ensure security is beefed up in the institution. He is also hopeful that the search for the 13 will yield positive results.
He also urged athletes to cooperate with the security when seeking access to the facility as security to enter the uni has been beefed up, to make sure to spot any suspicious activity.
