The joy of graduating after a tiresome four or six years in the university is always envisaged. When other students were graduating at Moi University, 13 students missed in the graduation list. A story that didn’t augur well with them.
The students went ahead to stop the graduation from taking place. Their move didn’t bear fruits as the university graduation went on. They did not relent but kept their hope alive in the name of justice. Finally, justice seems to have been served.
The court ruled that the university to compensate each student Ksh 50,000 for failing to administer their names in the list of the graduants who already graduated. The court also directed their names to be included in the next graduating class.
All universities need to have a clear criteria and give students time to check their names and issues before a graduation is called for. This will facilitate cohesion between the students and the the university hence court cases won’t prompt.
