Innocent Ujah Idibia popularly known by his stage name 2face Idibia, or 2Baba, is a Nigerian singer-songwriter, record producer and entrepreneur. He officially discontinued the use of the name Tuface and selected 2baba or Tu-baba as his stage name. He is one of the most decorated and successful Afro pop artists in Africa. He is also one of the most bankable artists in Africa. He was born in Jos Plateau State Nigeria. I spoke to him at Coke Studio and this is what he had to say about married life, his music and acting career:
Tell us about your new song with Sauti Sol ‘Oya Come Make We Go’?
It was an inspirational song encouraging the youth of Africa to follow their dreams. I became a fan of Sauti Sol when they did this song with me as I’ve been listening to them from before and I like their music. I wrote my part and they wrote theirs before we produced the song.
What excites you about Kenya each time you come back?
The people are friendly and I love the weather.
How is the whole Coke Studio experience going for you?
It has a brilliant concept. I like the live feel to collaborate with fellow artists. The music is organic.
What is the hidden meaning behind the song ‘Only Me’ and was it sang out of your own personal experience?
It talks about stuck up people who make the world go round. It is my advice to them to explore other borders.
What inspires your fashion sense especially your sneaker collection?
I’m comfortable and simple. I don’t consider myself a fashionista per say. I like being clean with my looks.
How is married life and how do you balance your music career with family life?
I married my friend as we have great chemistry and understanding of each other. I love it.
You’ve had three close encounters with death. Would you like to tell us more about that?
It just happened all of a sudden. It made me realize that life is precious and simple. Make the best out of it. Be happy with what you have at any moment in time. Remove your mind from sad things.
How does it feel to be named the ‘Goodwill Ambassador for the UN World Food Programme’?
It feels good, it encourages me to do more. I feel grateful and honored.
Since you and your wife are both actors, do you think your kids will follow suite?
We encourage our kids, advise and guide them if they show interest like afew of them are already showing signs of musical and acting interests.
How many artists are signed to your record label? What is the name?
It’s called Hypertek Digital. I have two artists signed namely Dammy Krane and Rocksteady.
How do you handle scandals?
If it’s true let it be and if it’s false say the truth and clear the air.
Any last words?
One love to my Kenyan people, don’t blame anyone and face your challenges head on.
