At least 38 people have been confirmed dead and over 400 families left displaced following the Patel dam tragedy that took place yesterday night in Solai, Nakuru County.

41 more people were treated and discharged from the hospital while 47 others are still admitted.

Patel dam which is a privately owned dam is said to have broken its walls at its full capacity of 200,000,000 liters of water.

The area is surrounded by around 8 more dams with the biggest dam having a capacity of around 450,000,000 liters of water which is what has now forced interior cabinet secretary Fred Matiangi to order engineers in the area to immediately discharge the waters safely to reduce the risk of losing more lives.

The death toll is likely to rise but in the meantime authorities are doing the best they can to make sure everybody is safe.
