Thousands of Kenya Power (KPLC) pre-paid customers had to look for alternative sources of power and lighting following delays they had been experiencing that some say lasted from between 15-to 24 hours.

The inconvenience has been blamed on an unscheduled system upgrade to the company’s servers and further to complicate the matter, it is said to have taken longer than expected to complete. The most affected customers are said to be customers who use virtual wallets such as M-pesa to purchase power tokens.

The company acknowledged the problem urging its customers to alternatively buy tokens from its baking halls before the problem is solved. Many frustrated customers took to social media to air their frustrations under the hashtag, SwitchoffKPLC.

Here are some of the tweets.
