The university of Nairobi began the construction of the towers between the Education building and Gandhi building in May 2013. The funding for the building was done internally. The contractor is China Wu Yi. They are set to open the towers this week. It is not clear yet whether the opening will have a ceremony or not.
The 21 floor building with learning facilities will accommodate 3000 students and house facilities that include the Vice-Chancellor’s Suite, Senate Boardroom, Council Meeting Room, one lecture theatre of 500 people, four lecture theatres of 300 persons and several lecture rooms to cater for a minimum of 60 people, a floor for the Graduate School of Business and a helipad.
Word is that there is also a performance theatre and studio for journalism students. The towers will be named Chandaria University of Nairobi towers.
Students of the University of Nairobi have a lot to look forward to this semester as the student elections kick off on 1st April 2016.
