Daystar University is the first university in Africa to benefit from the Youth Empowerment for Success (YES) initiative by the Coca Cola Africa Foundation. This was made possible through a partnership between Daystar University and Coca Cola Sabco, which saw the launch of the YES hub at the Nairobi Valley road campus.
The YES hub started off with eco-friendly refreshment kiosks located at the freedom corner, which will also provide free WIFI. In an effort to raise funds for needy students, the benefits from the kiosk will assist students who are financially challenged to pay their yearly school fees.
Speaking during the launch at Daystar University-Nairobi Road campus, the Coca Cola Country Managing Director Daryl Wilson said that the canteen was the first of its kind at a university in the country and Africa.
“We are committed to ensuring that our future leaders get the best education there is. At Coca Cola, we believe that investing in the future of bright needy students is our responsibility and this shop will be one of the many partnerships that our company will be pursuing in the near future to guarantee education for all. We want to provide a platform for the students that will enable them participate in the work process while gaining through tuition fees funding.”
The launch attracted a crowd of students and staff who enjoyed free Coca Cola drinks and other goodies and was also attended by Ms. Selena Olende who is the Country Public Affairs and Communications Manager at Coca Cola and Mr. Tony Okuku who is the Daystar University acting Corporate Affairs Manager among others.
