It was an astonishing turn of events when the lung patient who has lately been highly publicized towards people supporting her to treat her ailment met a street boy in Nairobi who was on his mission begging for money.
The steet boy, John Thuo while begging for money along Thika road noticed that the woman was carrying along Oxygen in aid to help her breathe. It was so shocking that the boy, with much sympathy and emotion while eyes filled with teardrops gave out the only ksh. 100 he had on his pocket.
“I was in a car in Thika road together with my friend trying to create awareness on my condition, to get well-wishers to help me with the amount of money needed for my surgery. And that is when the boy came to our car asking for the money.”
Ms. Kamande, the lung cancer patient who is seeking for donations of Ksh. 7 million to facilitate her surgery in India was seated on the front seat of the vehicle the boy was attempting to borrow. As he has done a number of times, the boy approached the window to try his luck but then what he saw overwhelmed him.
“He then saw me and started getting emotional, sympathizing with my condition. He cried a lot and proceeded to give me money he had been able to collect from his begging which was Ksh. 100, so I can go to hospital and get better.”
The boy after doing that threw the glue bottle and held on the ailing woman for he would be helping her in household chores. She has so far taken him to a children’s home in Thika to be taken care of until she gets back from hospital.
Ms. Kamande Wambui has been suffering since 2010 when she developed a growth in her stomach that led to operations. After 12 surgeries, she lost her eyesight and her husband and daughter deserted her leaving her desperate and seriously ill.
