More than 1,000 students at Umma University are unhappy about the fact that for 2 years now, they have not graduated or been issued their certificates even though they have completed their courses.

According to the students, the university has never made it clear to them how long they’ll have to wait to graduate and when exactly they’ll get their certificates. They can thus not go on and look for jobs because they don’t have the required papers. They can also not pursue Master’s degrees as some of them wish to as they have no evidence that they’ve completed their undergraduate studies.

According to the Daily Nation, Umma University’s registrar of academics, Dr. Hussein Ali Osman, claimed “The university’s management is waiting (for a) charter and once all procedures are over, a graduation (ceremony) will be held in two to three months’ time.”
