Easter is a religious holiday popular among the Christians as they celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It’s also a relief for those in the cooperate world as it provides them with a long weekend off their respective work places hence scores opt to travel to up country or rather fun places to release the pressures of the mind.

This year’s Easter saw many people especially Nairobians travel to different counties to join our brothers there in having fun over the different planned events. The second episode of Hakuna Matata Festival took place at Machakos while Nakuru hosted the popular Great Rift 10’s aside tournament popularly known as NaxVegas. The Varcity community joined the others in the roads to Nakuru as different Campus teams were set to participate in the tournament alongside other Rugby clubs such as Mwamba and Kenya Harlequins.

The event kicked on a high note and the major surprise came in when we saw KCA University beat Mwamba to a stunning perfomance with a score of 12-5. KeMU were late in arrival that saw them get a sympathy pooling to play in the division two. They put all their effort to outshine the teams in that category just to prove that they are way past that league as they played their way out to the finals but suffered a slight defeat of 8-5 from Thika RCF. The main Cup was a true thriller because all the favorite teams suffered srprise defeats. The main Cup defending champions Nakuru RFC ‘Wanyore’ could only manage to leave with the plate trophy despite the fact that they were the hosts and enjoyed the massive home support. Strathmore Leos are known to deploy skill and power, Mitch’s boys deserved the win against the bankers, but second centre man, OJ, Punished their poor drifting which saw the final whistle blow with level scores of 15-15. This meant that they would proceed to the sudden death. Indimuli sealed the scoreline by converting a penalty, which propelled the Bankers to success by a score of 18-15. Heartbreaking for Mitch’s boys but thrilling for the odds, that is rugby for you.

I must congratulate KCA University for the great effort they have put to see them up their game that enabled them play the bowl finals and a big shout out to Strathmore Leos for their consistency in the last three seasons. We are all looking forward to Kenya Cup and Leos is still giving the students community title hopes as they are playing Wanyore in the cup semis on May 10th. Meet y’all at Kasarani on May 17th. Varcity always representing the campus community, stay with us.
