Insights on JKUAT Strike and the police brutality

The Jomo Kenyatta University Strike has continued to trend for the better part of the day. It has trended under different hashtags. From #StopPoliceBrutality,#JkuatLivesMatter,#MileleFakeNews among other hot trends today.

One thing that came out in the strike after an open interaction with the students today, the students mentioned the strike was propelled due to the frequent deaths that have occurred in the university surroundings.

Security has been a problem that many students have kept on mentioning as a thorn in the flesh.  After a frequent visit to the administration by the students leaders, nothing has been resolved yet as far as security is adhered.

” I don’t understand the role of police in the country!” Jane exclaimed. The Media student is still trying to get a grip of what roles police should play in the society. She asserted that after seeing the video of how police men mishandled a JKUAT student.

A question that has also been seen as a double talk from CS Matiang’i. “The boy is reported to be detained at Juja police station despite the beatings he received yesterday.” A student reiterated. He is reported to be under detainment without medical care

The student beaten by police  name is Allan Omondi, a 4th Year Food Science and Technology student. He is still being locked up at Juja Police Station despite all combined efforts to get him out. He has Asthma, but no inhaler, and no sweater inside there.

A report that has come from our sources is that the police prevented the mother and even media from seeing him . This is after the clip went viral. “Most of the students are hoping the police officers will face charges as CS Matiang’i.” A third student recalled.

A gain one thing that stood out is that the name of the police is Kiprotich from Juja police station. This has been affirmed by Kibe in his morning show after calling the police officer who is denying to be one of those who caused brutality.

” JKuat as long as you are walking around in dreadlocks, you are criminal to those wicked officers,” A second year reaffirmed. He feels the student was mishandled due to his dreadlocks.

” We truly condemn the acts of police. A police officer should be ashamed of himself. ” This is what many are championing for in Juja.
