Migori Governor Okoth Obado can finally breathe a sigh of relief as he has been freed by the court.
Okoth has been freed on a Ksh500, 000 bond with a surety of a similar amount or Ksh200, 000 cash bail. Kibera Chief Magistrate Joyce Gandani has freed him on the basis of the prosecution having failed to interfere with the ongoing investigations.
She however ordered him not to interfere with the ongoing investigations. Obado was arrested on Wednesday after Ethics and Anti-Corruption detectives found guns in his homes. Some of the guns were suspected to be unlicensed.
The prosecution had yesterday requested the court to have the embattled governor detained for 15 days to allow the police to conduct a proper investigations on the weapons to ascertain they had not been used to commit any crimes.
