This year’s election has seen the youth braver when it comes to competing at the polls. From numerous youth vying for the MCA seats in various areas since the nomination period to courageous individuals declaring their candidature as independents like the aspiring senator for Nairobi, Suzanne Silantoi.

In Molo, all the aspirants for the MP seat are alumni of Kenyatta University, even the incumbent Member of Parliament.

Maryann Njambi Mugo displays her nomination

Maryann Njambi Mugo (33), Francis Kuria Kimani (28) and Jacob Macharia who is the incumbent are ready to battle each other to be Molo’s next MP. All of them face various challenges in the wake of this elections. Ms. Mugo had been asked by the council of elders to step down for her Jubilee counterpart, Mr. Kuria who also beat Mr. Macharia at the party nominations causing the first time MP to vie on an independent seat.

Despite all these the KU alumni focus on their various agendas like improvement of Education and job creation in Molo which is Ms. Mugo’s major mandate. Mr. Kuria is to focus more on Agriculture in the constituency as well as infrastructure and proper financial management of the consituency’s funds if elected.
