University lecturers in the country are threatening to go on strike yet again due to disagreements over the 2017 – 2021 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
Lecturers went on strike three times last year alone. This caused students in all public universities to miss a lot of study time that they are now trying to make up for.

The negotiations between the Inter-Public Universities Councils Consultative Forum of the Federation of Kenya Employers and lecturers was postponed to this week Friday (19th January) to which lecturers responded that if the negotiations are not held before the end of February, they will yet again go on strike. The negotiations were supposed to begin on Wednesday 10th and end on Friday 12th last week.
“Uasu promotes industrial harmony and it would be extremely unfortunate if actions by IPUCCF provoke a fresh industrial unrest from February 28,”
UASU Secretary General Dr. Wasonga said.
