When you met at first, you never thought anything more than friendship would develop between the two of you. Then like a bolt from the blue, it strikes. You wake up one morning and realize that you’re in love with them. How did it even happen? You wonder. Oh, my! What if they find out am falling for them? Should I let them know?
The above is a familiar script that is enacted in the lives many. Falling in love with someone feels quite natural, and it’s in fact the easiest part. What proves to be a conundrum is actually expressing your interest in dating them.
Should you let them know that you’re in love with them? What if it pushes them away from you? What if they don’t say that they love you too? How do you even get round to pouring your heart out?
Every book on relationships, whether it’s written by Dr. Phil or the guy next to you in a matatu, will advise you to always let them know that you love them. They are right. However, for those few of us who don’t know how and whether to do this, here are a few tips.
You need to know that there’s no such thing as gender norms, every one can say they love someone first. So girls, if you find yourself head over heels because of a certain guy, it’s perfectly all right for you to open your heart to them.
I would advise anyone to play it slow when it comes to revealing their feelings; only fools rush in where angels fear to tread. Take your time to read the signs in the other person. A little patience will also go a long way in helping you figure out whether you really love them, or whether it’s just infatuation.
Don’t assume that they’ll just read your mind and know you’re harboring affection for them. They are only humans, not psychics. You need to gather up courage and say it to them. You may feel shy, awkward, or just confused at first, but you’re not alone. Only courage will set you free.
There exist myriads of ways for expressing your love, but telling them directly (on a date or something) always carries the day. Nonetheless, other methods can work as sufficiently too. For the shy amongst us, how about buying a card or a gift? Confessing through late night texts has been known to yield great results too!
Some individuals will never say the three magic words because they’re afraid of rejection. It is better to be rejected, than live all your life with regrets about the love you never had. Even when someone rejects you, you are still gaining something from being a more compassionate, open and honest person. Telling them does not necessarily mean that they’ll return your love. However, what if they say they love you too?
