Joseph Irungu known as Jowie, has been denied bail by the high court today. Jowie is a key suspect in Monica Kimani’s murder.

On Tuesday, October 30th, Justice James Wakianga said that Jowie had access to guns which could intimidate witnesses if he was left to face trial outside police custody. Justice Wakianga further stated instances where Jowie was posing with guns on social media. This means that he can easily access the guns considering that he has strong ties in the Middle East where he used to work.

“The accused has no permanent residence and has been keeping up at his girlfriend’s place. He seems to have strong ties in Middle East where he secured employment. There have been numerous photos in which he posed with guns showing he can access them. He could easily intimidate witnesses, some of whom are known to him,”

Wakiaga said.

On the other hand, Justice Wakiaga granted Citizen Anchor Jaque Maribe bail.

She was granted a bond of KSh 2 million with same surety amount or alternatively pay KSh 1 million cash bail in order to face trial outside custody.

“She is a mother of a four-year-old son and charges she faces could make her spend long days in jail upon conviction. She could be allowed to spend time with her child and help him become a better citizen during the trial,”

Wakiaga ruled.

Justice Wakiaga further said that he didn’t have enough evidence that could show that Jacque would be a flight risk if she was released on bail. Maribe was also barred from anchoring news during the trial period.

“The second accused is also ordered not to come anywhere close to the witness. She is ordered not to read the news, conduct interviews, or be interviewed on matters concerning this case whatsoever. These terms will be reviewed from time to time, “

Wakiaga added.
