Is it not crazy how we are always waking up to some jarring headline?
Members of Parliament being sworn in/Daily Nation.
A section of United Democratic Party Alliance (UDA) Members of Parliament plan to scrap off the presidential term limit of not more than 2 terms (10 years). They seek to work on a constitutional amendment Bill to make the age limit for presidency 75 years.
Therefore, this would mean that His Excellency Willian Ruto would have a chance for re-election to serve for 20 years. Seeing that he got into office at the age of 55.
“We want to tell Kenyans that the limit on two terms should be relooked. We want it to be changed to an age limit where when one gets to 75 years then he or she cannot contest,” Fafi MP Salah Yakub stated at one of the food relief drives in Garissa County.
With that said, many Kenyans cannot help but wonder if we just voted ourselves back into another Moi era. But if you look at both sides of the coin, there is both pros and cons. Just as Mr. Yakub stated, why not give a president the chance to run again if they are doing a good job.
Be it with upstanding courage or hands clutched next to our hearts, we Kenyans hope that this administration will serve us right.
