Embattled Migori Governor Okoth Obado was on Thursday taken to Kibera Law Courts to answer to gun-related charges following his yet another dramatic Wednesday arrest.
Mr. Obado’s Wednesday arrest was in connection to eight firearms suspected to be unlicensed found in his homes during a raid by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives.
The governor is likely to spend the next 15 days in custody following a request by lead prosecutor MS Catherine Mwaniki so as to give the police an ample time to ascertain that the guns were not used to commit any crimes.
Obado is facing corruption accusations and the raid was initially meant to look for evidence linking him to the loss of Ksh 2Billion from his county but then the officers first stumbled upon the weapons forcing them to deal with that first.
He is said to have distributed the money to his relatives mostly his children who happen to live in different countries. Obado is also facing murder charges related to the murder of his former girlfriend Sharon Otieno.
