Maxland Restaurant at Roasters on Thika Road was the perfect place for lovers of fashion, beauty, culture; great food and music to kick start their weekend escapades.
On the 1st of April, Mr. and Miss Moi University town campus pageant went down. The event attracted both upcoming artists and established ones like King Kaka who was to be the main performing artists at the crowning of Mr. and Miss Moi University Nairobi town campus.
The event that had been anticipated for a year was scheduled to start as 6pm till dawn. Unfortunately, due to too much excitement, panic and the last minute African culture, it kicked off at 11pm. The spectacular event began with a dance group from the school known as the Queens Dancers who rocked the stage with groundbreaking moves. The group did an outstanding job, as they left the stage for the invited emcee, the one and only Karis from Churchill show.
The all-time favorite comedian, brought along another comedian by the name Othu ol Othuol who partnered with him in cracking up the audience as they patiently waited for the beautiful ladies and hot guys to hit the run way.
The competition for the Mr. and miss title attracted nineteen contestant; fourteen ladies and five men who were to showcase their different personalities, skills and prove that they deserved the crown. The first category was for the models to introduce themselves to their audience.
The second category that divided the nineteen ladies and guys into three groups was defined by contestants showing their synchronized dance moves. In between these categories, the crowd was entertained by new and upcoming artists including; chief, Tott, slim and Faith who beautifully gave an acapella of Elani’s Subira hit song.
This performances paved way for the career wear category. The models showcased different careers including; air-hostess, farmers, retailers, belly dancer, police officers, engineers, religious leaders, chef’s, sportsmen, nurses and gymnasts. In this category, the contestants showed us how to look fresh, cool and sexy in our office wear.
In the fourth category, the models stripped the run way with different casual wear attires. The attires included Ankara, sandals, heels, shorts and brightly colored tops and bottom wears for both the ladies and the guys. This was crowned by a performance from Kevoh Mulla, who gave the crowd some jaw dropping rap session.
The fifth category was pronounced by creative wear. In this category, we saw how innovative the contestants were. From those who made attires from Newspapers and steel wool to those who made attires out of plastic cups and branches and leaves. Here the ladies proved to be more creative than the men.
After this, the crowd got a treat of some Lingala Music from some invited Congolese nationals. Then the crowd got to learn how to dress when you are at the beach. The ladies presented their beautiful curves and flat tummies and the guys showed their hairy legs in shorts and fit chests in bear chests and button less shirts. In the final category, the models gave an outstanding performance in their dinner attires. Here the gentlemen did not disappoint. They showed us how ladies are meant to be taken care of when at dinner.
Finally, King Kaka and his entourage stormed the restaurant. He had some of the artists in his King Kaka empire curtain raise for him. The artists who left a mark on the crowd were Amatela and Louise. Proving King Kaka is doing a great job in his mentoring. When he finally stepped on stage, King Kaka gave the crowd what they deserved. He did some of his greatest hits including: Baadaye which he featured Amos and Josh, Adisia, Leta, Kuchu Kuchu, Lini, Alivyonipenda and many more.
After this, those who stood out were crowned as Mr. and Miss Moi University town campus.
The party went on till dawn, with those still young at heart and spirit living it up. The event was proudly and greatly sponsored by Red Bull Company, Coca Cola Company, Beauty Point College, KTS Tv, Sistar Hair Company, Moi University administration and Varcity Kenya.
