Retired Major General Joseph Nkaiserry (ODM) has been appointed as the new Interior Cabinet Secretary by President Uhuru Kenyatta. Addressing the nation outside the State House on the 2nd of December, the Kajiado Central Member of the National Assembly was announced to be the new replacement to Ole Lenku hours after the killing of 36 people in Mandera.
On 24th December, the Opposition Party (ODM) added its voice to the chorus of calls on social media and demanded that President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto send home the then Internal Security Cabinet Secretary Joseph ole Lenku after the horrific terrorist attack that left 28 people dead.
Over 100 policemen and civilians have been killed since June in Mpeketoni, Kapedo and Mandera attacks, with many more casualties in ethnic conflicts in Northern Kenya and crime in other parts of the country. Calls for a security shake-up have intensified with the grim spectacle of civilians and policemen airlifted in body bags from killing fields.
Is Joseph Nkaiserry up to the task?
