It was not a dream start for the Kenyan men volleyball team who were hoping to emulate their female counterparts after they were beaten by Egypt in their first match at Africa Men Championship in Egypt. Egypt were the heavy favorites for the match given their impressive displays in previous tournaments started as the brighter side and were able to maintain their momentum and overcome a motivated Kenyan side that showed grit and resolve. Egypt pulled off a straight set over Kenya 3-0 (25-19, 25-14, 25-18) in Pool A, a match that lasted 69 minutes. Ahmed Salah led Egypt’s scorers with 12 points, whereas Philip Maiyo led Kenyans with 10 points.

The Kenyan team was highly competitive in the first set with the spikes of Maiyo and the discipline of the defense, but Egypt overwhelmed the situation in the second and third sets due to the sharpness of its players.

The competition acts as a qualifier for the 2015 FIVB Men’s World cup in Japan September 8th to 23rd 2015 as the top two teams in each pool will secure their tickets to the prestigious event.
