In a move to restore sanity in the education sector, the ministry of education has set an audit process targeting the private universities in the country. Higher education Principal Secretary Collete Suda said the step comes after the wanting standards of education in the private universities.

She said that some universities have commercialized the sector instead of offering quality programs.

Furthermore, she said that the audit will determine whether some courses are relevant in terms of job market and nation building.

“Irrelevant courses that do not meet the needs of graduates will be scrapped. We need courses that are market driven.”

She said this during the University of Eldoret’s graduation ceremony on Friday.

The principle secretary added that the audit will seal loopholes used by politicians to acquire degree certificates through dubious menas.
