Pumwani hospital has been put on the spot after it emerged that there could be high numbers of infant deaths as a result of machines at the Maternity wing being switched off by the hospitals management.

According to Nairobi governor Mike Sonko, he decided to conduct an impromptu visit to the hospital after he received reports from members of the public informing him of the possible deaths. “Conducting impromptu visit at Pumwani Hospital, where it’s alleged by, members of the public that the management shut down the machines at the Maternity wing leading to loss of lives of young ones,” wrote the governor on his Facebook page alongside a video of the all incident.

Sonko arrived at the hospital on a motorcycle in an “undercover” move where upon asking a member of stuff, they lied to him that only one infant had died in the hospital in the last 24hrs. However, upon thorough scrutiny, more bodies were found stuffed up in boxes totaling to a number of 12.

The governor then informed the police and left it to them to conduct further investigations.
