Should #FiftyShadesOfGrey Have Been Banned In Kenya?

The much awaited Valentine Special movie has been banned by the Kenya Film and Classification Board. I know what you’re thinking ”Wasn’t it enough it was rated 21 yrs and above?” Well, Fifty Shades Of Grey has brought a lot of controversy all over the world for several reasons. In UK, it has received complaint from the domestic violence campaigners whereas in Malaysia it’s been banned for it’s apparent pornographic content. Wasn’t it obvious it would be banned in Kenya?

For those unaware this movie was based on the first book of the Trilogy : Fifty Shades Of Grey by E. L. James about the BDSM relationship between a young, sexy millionaire and a Literature student. It’s a heated erotic novel about their love or rather passion for each other. If that book could cause a temperature up, what of the movie? Guess we will never find out.

I must admit it was disappointing to see that the director, Sam Taylor Johnson, chose Jamie Dornan for the role of Christian Grey. I had a sort of young Leonado De Caprio kinda a guy when I read the book. Oh well, maybe it’s just me. The choice of Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan didn’t reduce the masses anticipating the film with many people still eager. How could it when the film has soundtracks by amazing artists like Ellie Goulding, Sia , Beyonce , the Weeknd …among others? When the poster for the movie just scream ” SEX ALERT!!! ” ?

It would have exciting to watch it in a dark cinema hall but I guess you’ll will have to watched in the comfort of your homes for all those who always manage to purchase banned movies. As for the rest of us, I guess we’ll just sulk on missing Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson in action. Biggest Bummer of the 2015.
