This year’s Mapinduzi Cup may not feature any Kenyan clubs after Sofapaka and AFC Leopards opted to stay away from the tournament.

Club officials of the two teams have confirmed that they will not be traveling to Zanzibar at the turn of the New Year, citing the tournament’s bad timing and lack of funds as the major reasons.

Leopards strikers Allan Wanga and Jacob Keli and defender Jackson Saleh were injured in last year’s tournament, with Wanga being ruled out for two months.

AFC Leopards were knocked out in the preliminary rounds after failing to secure a single win against their pool opponents KCCA (Uganda), Simba (Tanzania) and KMKM of Zanzibar.
