This week has been filled with various establishments in Nairobi getting demolished by NEMA.
Earlier this week, we saw upmarket Java restaurant and Shell petrol station in Kileleshwa get brought down by bulldozers. This morning was no different at Lang’ata as South End Mall was brought down.
The reasons given for this demolitions is that these establishments were on riparian land. This is the land that is between a river and land.
With that knowledge, people are now naming all the malls that they believe to be on riparian land. These are:
Two rivers mall
Located in Ruaka, the owner is Kenyan made billionaire Chris Kirubi.
2. Taj Mall
Located in Eastlands, the owner is known as Rameshchandra Govind Gorasia.
The demolitions are said to help clean up Nairobi river which has been recently very clogged, leading to flooding during the rainy season. We will see the next establishment that will be NEMA’s target.
