Valentine’s Day is probably the most romantic day of the year. On this day, all living creatures pair up and use the opportunity to splash gifts, flowers and chocolates on each other. This Friday is the day designated to show love for the person who makes your heart go ‘kedike’, but what if you don’t have that person in your life yet?
For the amorously challenged, fourteenth February might sure be a stinging day. I know some of you have already been tempted to call your ex-lovers so as to feel ‘normal’ on this date. If you’re not careful, all the love in the air might make you emotionally unstable. Those mushy Facebook posts might drive a horse and chariots through your feelings, and you may end up hating yourself for a crime you did not commit – being single. Relax; I am here to tell you how you can spend Valentine’s Day without a lover.
The first thing to remember is that you are your own CEO (Chief Emotional Officer). If you choose to stay indoors and loathe yourself in loneliness, you will surely hate this Valentine’s. However, you can turn around your world by feeling good about yourself and loving yourself. Prepare your mind for a fun-filled day; who said you can’t participate in Valentine day’s activities if you don’t have a date?
If you’re single, it will behoove you to mark the day by treating yourself. Have you ever had a massage from a professional? This is absolutely the day to splash money on one in a good spa. How about catching a movie in 3-D at IMAX Theatres? Ice-Skating at Panari Hotel? Bowling at Village Market?
How about being your own date? Trust me; it’s the best thing ever. Clad in your favourite garments and go out to that expensive restaurant you’ve always wanted to try. Order the finest of wine and dinner, then sit back and appreciate yourself for loving you.
Buy yourself stuff you’ve always dreamt of. That Gucci T-shirt, that fancy guitar, heck! Even buy yourself a box-load of chocolates and pizza! You deserve it!
You might team up with your single pals and organize a party. All you’ll need is some music and drinks of your choice. So, gather up your pals who are either single or their dates are unavailable, and team up to create the biggest jamboree ever. Who said you need members of the opposite sex so as to have fun?
A night out with friends too is quite a noble idea. A girls’ night out to your favourite hang-out joint might just do the trick in ensuring a fun-filled Valentine’s. Ditto too to a boys’ overnight FIFA tournament.
If your family is within reach, you may decide to show just how much you love them by spending the day with them. Allow your mum to make the most delicious chapattis for supper. Buy a gift for your sister, and get a new pair of socks for your dad.
Before you know it 14th February will be over, but you’ll be glad you enjoyed it. Mine is to wish you a happy Valentine’s and hope that Cupid might find you just in time for next year’s Valentines.
