Spotify Releases List of the Most popular songs of 2017

When looking at what music lovers all around the world pressed play on throughout the past year, No matter how you spin it, Ed Sheeran’s name just keeps rising to the top.

According to Spotify, his third album ÷ (Divide), which was released in March, racked up 3.1 billion streams, and its lead single “Shape Of You” pulled more than its own weight, bringing in 1.4 billion of those plays. Thus making “Shape of You” the most-streamed song of all time on the platform.


Incredibly, “Despacito” fills slots Nos. 2 and 3 on the list of the most popular songs in the world, as two versions of the track rose to prominence at different times. The Justin Bieber version was the slightly more successful of the two, while the original, which only features Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee singing entirely in Spanish, is not far behind in third.
