University of Nairobi becomes a latest university to go on strike as a result of insecurity issues are concerned in the universities. This comes after JKUAT took to the streets of Thika road calling for security of students to be adhered to.
They went on strike on Monday after the demise of one of the students’ was stabbed by unknown assailers. The student is reported to have succumbed in hospital.
The UON students took matters to their own hands and burnt a hostel in the school to express their anger and dissatisfaction as matters of security is concerned. The murdered students is reported to have suspended from the school before he resumed back to the university.
The student leadership wants security company that is attached to the school to be disbanded. They feel that the security firm i.e Lavington Security Services mishandled the alleged student that died at Kenyatta National Hospital.
The UON incident is really an unfortunate. The security attached to the campus are expected to offer security to students only to be the one causing death and threat to the students in the university.
This is not the first incident that have brought negative implications to the students on the students. This is a fourth time, a student undergoes torture at the hands of a security firm attached to the university.
The protest that took place at night has caused destruction to the university. Apart from burning the hostel, they burnt a building where the security office is located. The students are now calling for CS Magoha and CS. Matiang’i to intervene.
