Former University of Nairobi Student’s Union leader Paul Ongili (popularly known as Babu Owino) won the Embakasi East seat with a 56.2% win over his rivals, Jubilee’s Francis Mureithi & Maendeleo Chap Chap’s Mary Wangari. Ongili emerged as the winner of the tough race between him and Mureithi.

Babu Owino had a total of 43,862 votes in the constituency. “We did it with a total of 39,905 votes (52.6%). Thanks to God, my dear wife and the whole of Embakasi East fraternity for this opportunity.”, he tweeted. Mary Wangari was third with 1,424.

For a moment at the Embakasi East tallying center, the winner’s certificate went missing causing Babu Owino’s fans to start complaining thinking that the certificate was being held from him. After Babu Owino convincing them to give him his certificate, it was found in the Returning Officer’s things. He was sure that the Returning Officer was told to withhold the certificate from Mr. Ongili.

In the end, Babu Owino was handed his certificate.
