The Fight Goes On! UASU Rejects Government’s Salary Offer

On 14th of May, the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) rejected the 1.75% increment by the government. They cited it as non- counter proposal as that was their request to stop the ongoing strike all over the country.

This has made learning in 31 Public institutions t be paralyzed. To escalate the strike the officials   have decided that they will meet on Wednesday to discuss on how to carry on the strike. Currently, the highest paid professor takes Sh 248,898 while the lowest assistant lecturer  takes Sh 82,037. They want the lowest paid lecturer to earn Sh 195,000 and the highest to take 1M.

Should the government revisit their counter proposal offer, it will be effective as from 1st July and remain for a period of four years.
