University of Nairobi strike over everything. Their solidarity and belief in standing up for their rights is unbelievable. I wish our country was that united in nation building but then it’s good to dream.

Yesterday, 24th February, they gathered in protest over the death of their own. The third year Medicine student was hit by a van on University Way and succumbed to injuries at the Kenyatta National Hospital.

They protested into the evening causing irreparable damage to unlucky motorists who used that road unaware of the situation. The students stoned motorists on roads around the university for several hours from 7 pm on learning of the death of their colleague.

Peace was restored at around 9.30 pm when the anti riot officer dispersed the mob with tear gas and gunshots in the air.

As much as striking is frowned upon I must admit it’s a shame to lose a future doctor to a road accident probably caused by a reckless driving.
