Dozens of curio shops in Westlands were brought down this morning under tight security by the Kenya Urban Roads Authorities (KURA) in order to pave way for the expansion of Lower Kabete and Peponi roads.

Traders watched in horror as some of their life savings went down the drain with no possible way to salvage the investments claiming they had been informed within a short notice.

The iron sheet stalls which housed food kiosks, boutiques and furniture outlets are said to have been sitting on a road reserve.

The incident also caused a heavy traffic snarl up around the Westlands area.
