My Weight Loss Journey In Campus

Phoebe Louise Gor, a 23 year old USIU International Relations Student takes us through her tremendous weight loss journey in the past two years. She’s been through diets and disciplined work out routines that has seen her come from an almost 120+kgs to 88kgs. She says;

“Dedication and friends got me this far”

Here is her story.

What inspires you everyday?

Well, firstly, I don’t want to go back to where I was. Which was 120+kgs (I won’t give the exact weight?)

I was pretty much heavy all through my teenage hood. But because I’m tall, it wasn’t that visible.

I got tired of putting a front that I’m fine with my size while everyone around me saw that it’s not right. You know, 19 years old and you’re bordering 125 kgs.

So yeah, I got up one day 2014 August to be exact, and decided to make a change and fit into this one dress I wanted at Woolworths.

Normal people quit on day three, after the muscle pulls and all, you made it to two years?

Once I started seeing results, I couldn’t stop myself, knowing that it only gets better, you know?

Like the only way from here is up.

And the gains as well , when you’re body starts looking a certain way , and you’re feeling yourself , there’s no way you’re going to slack.

Were you alone in this journey?

Definitely, the company you keep can either make you or break you, you need people who will accept what your journey entails and work with it  , not people who make you feel bad  , or treat you different because of the choice to make yourself happy and better.

I met amazing people through my journey as well , people who motivate me, my family supports me 150%  that’s pretty much what keeps me going.

Did you just gym or went on a diet? Do they work?

I did both, I actually changed my whole life style. I gym 5 days a week, which is life.

My diet, I cut out processed foods, processed sugar, increased my vegetable intake, be it green juice or salads, I drastically decreased my carbs intake as well. Rather, I only eat carbs in the morning, because I need energy for the rest of the day. I try and eat 5 to 6 small meals per day, and I make sure it’s got a lot of protein. (I’m working on building muscle at the moment)

Expound more on the diet…

Umm, loads of water and green tea. I’m juice girl though. But, I keep it to 2 glasses of fresh juice, with no sugar or pulp per day.

Cheat days much?

Once in a while, I’ll go for burger week. Pizza Hut is definitely my weakness though. I had to change everything. I have cheat days, like once in a while, more precisely, once in every two weeks. So, then, I can get a pizza, pizza is Bae. Lol

 

Challenges faced in this journey?

Ohh , the diet , withdrawal from your old diet is hard ! Because your body was so used to certain things

Umm , I’d say , even the first work outs , especially if you’ve never done it before , or you were never active , I used to play basketball in high school , so , I’m sort of a good runner , that helped me.   And the plateau stage of weight loss , when you’re literally stuck at the same weight for weeks , no matter how hard you go , I recently just got outta mine ! The levels of frustration is just something else !

But , that’s when you really get to know what exactly you can take , you know , what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger typpa mindset.
